Overview
Forex Sport is an Australian-owned, ASIC-regulated foreign exchange and money transfer company offering services in more than 40 countries and transfers to over 100. I worked on the team that designed and built a new in-house platform to give customers a faster, friendlier way to move money across borders.
The challenge
- Customers expect a money transfer service to feel as simple as any modern app — the experience had to be easier to use.
- Manual operational tasks slowed the team down and left room for error.
- Cross-border transfers depend on third-party banking partners, and processing time directly affects customer satisfaction.
- As usage grew the platform had to scale and stay reliable, in a regulated industry where trust is everything.
Approach & solution
- A new platform on React and Node.js, designed around the customer journey and built for performance and scalability.
- AWS-backed automation — event-driven jobs on AWS Lambda and storage on S3 alongside services on EC2 — replacing manual workflows.
- CI/CD pipelines so every change is tested and released consistently.
- Third-party banking API integrations to streamline the cross-border transfer flow.
- Continuous troubleshooting and optimisation of slow paths to keep the platform fast as usage grew.
Architecture
A React front end talks to Node.js services on AWS; automated jobs run on Lambda with S3 storage, and banking partners are reached through dedicated integrations.
- Customers Senders in 40+ countries
- React web app Fast, friendly UX
- Node.js services AWS EC2

Lessons learned
In financial products, perceived speed and reliability are the user experience. Automating the repetitive parts of delivery freed the team to focus on the parts customers actually feel.
